The Candle’s Flame Respite Retreat and Conference Center will be a unique place capable of welcoming the individual and family dealing with disabilities of all sorts. Consider, if we are able to welcome those with disability, we are able to welcome EVERYone.
And there must be fun. There will be a water playground for all ages and abilities open in the spring and summer. The playgrounds around the property will be fully accessible for those of all levels of physical ability. How about a small working farm with animals to interact with? How about a folk arts studio where we can get messy learning to throw pottery, or make glass beads, or even make a copper bowl? Or perhaps you’d like to explore anachronistic history and have a drink in a Mead Hall or sit praying in a chapel inspired by Gothic architecture?
Respite for Families
This big dream is a place where families struggling with disabilities could come knowing we’ve tried to think of all the things to help family members be safe, where we will welcome them with open arms without judgement.
Respite for missionaries and ministry/non-profit leaders
A handful of “cabins” will be able to serve as transition homes for missionaries coming home from the field. What an honor it would be to allow families who may have been in some of the most dangerous locations of the world find rest.
The local ministry/non-profit leader needs respite also, perhaps only for a day or a couple of nights. We’ll be certain to make sure every leader in the general vicinity knows they have a space they can go to that is affordable and welcoming.
Respite for the special needs adult
And the final piece of the vision is a section of the property that will have an assisted living setting for non-medically fragile adults with disabilities. We see the coming tidal wave of services that will be needed. This property will provide a much needed service and offer meaningful ways for the residents to earn a living on and off the property if they desire.
Retreat & Event Accommodations
And besides all that there will be wide open spaces to accommodate a wide variety of retreat and event options. The leadership team will work very hard discovering opportunities to share the property and find ways throughout the entire year to diversify the property’s income.
There will be lots of opportunities to enjoy the property with quiet spaces to enjoy, classes to take, and camps to attend. This charitable, non-profit is coming. We hope you will consider joining us to make it a reality.
